Symex Plant - 14 Woodruff St, Port Melbourne

Demolition of a former soap factory with industrial plant up to seven storeys, asbestos removal and heritage building retention.

Industrial demolition at the former Symex factory in Port Melbourne, with Rafferty excavators removing metal tanks and industrial equipment.

Rafferty the Wrecker undertook extensive demolition and hazardous materials removal at the former Symex soap factory site in Port Melbourne. The 34,900 m² industrial site included factories, warehouses and structures up to seven storeys high.

Works included friable and non-friable asbestos removal, demolition of industrial buildings and plant, and removal of redundant services, foundations and underground structures. Two heritage buildings were retained for future repurposing, requiring careful separation from adjoining demolition works and protection of essential services. Approximately 95% of materials removed from the site were recycled, with plant and equipment also repurposed through auctions and sales.
