Staged hospital demolition and internal strip-out, including asbestos removal and structural modifications for redevelopment.

Demolition and strip-out works during the redevelopment of St John of God Hospital in Ballarat.

Rafferty the Wrecker undertook demolition and strip-out works as part of the redevelopment of St John of God Hospital in Ballarat. The project involved staged internal strip-out across Levels 2 and 3, asbestos removal, demolition of the entrance roof and canopy, and removal of designated external wall panels, windows and other building elements to facilitate the new construction works.

The scope also included creating new openings in existing wall panels, removing external kerbs, landscaping and asphalt within the new building footprint, and removing two diesel tanks at the rear of the buildings. Façade and canopy works required crane and elevated work platform access, with careful coordination of demolition activities and protection of retained structures within the operating hospital environment.
