Kilkenny Inn, 580 Lonsdale St, Melbourne
Demolition of fire-damaged brick buildings, with partial demolition and temporary propping to protect heritage façades.

Rafferty the Wrecker undertook demolition works at the Kilkenny Inn site at 580 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, involving multiple fire-damaged, two- and three-storey brick buildings fronting King Street and Lonsdale Street. The project included partial demolition works at 576–578 Lonsdale Street, where heritage-listed façade walls had to be retained.
Works involved staged structural demolition, installation of temporary steel beams and columns, and propping to provide structural support to the retained building elements. Internal walls, doors, windows, floors and ceilings were removed progressively, with careful hand demolition used to separate the building structure from the retained southern and western heritage façades. The works required detailed sequencing and coordination to facilitate demolition while protecting the heritage-listed structures.
