Demolition of the 12-level commercial office building at 71 Queens Road, Melbourne, using a controlled top-down methodology.

Rafferty the Wrecker undertook the demolition of a 12-level commercial office building at 71 Queens Road, Melbourne, including a two-level rooftop plantroom and one basement. The reinforced concrete structure featured concrete columns, beams, suspended floors and an external façade of concrete walls and aluminium windows.

Demolition was carried out using a controlled top-down methodology with small plant and machinery to help protect adjoining buildings and the public. Scaffolding and a carefully sequenced demolition process supported works in the constrained urban environment. The ground-level slab and basement were retained.
