Partial demolition of buildings at 676–682 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne, with retained western façades supported by temporary steel structures.

Rafferty the Wrecker undertook partial and complete demolition works at 676–682 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. The project involved a two-level building at 676–678 Elizabeth Street and a building at 680–682 Elizabeth Street comprising three levels at the front and four levels at the rear.
The western façades and five-metre return sections of the northern and southern walls were retained and supported by temporary steel façade retention systems extending over the Elizabeth Street footpath. Demolition involved removing roof and floor levels before the external walls, followed by careful hand demolition to separate the structures from the retained façades. The methodology also addressed the protection of adjoining buildings at 684 and 660 Elizabeth Street and the public.
