570 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne

Demolition of multiple buildings along King Street, with selected façades retained and supported by steel systems.

Demolition of multi-storey brick buildings at King Street, Melbourne, with heritage façades retained using temporary steel support systems.

Rafferty the Wrecker undertook demolition works across multiple two- and three-storey brick buildings along King Street, Melbourne, associated with the 570 Little Bourke Street site. The works included partial demolition at 204–208 King Street and 232 King Street, with selected façades retained, and complete demolition of the buildings at 224, 226 and 228–230 King Street.

The retained western and southern façades at 204–208 King Street, and the western façade at 232 King Street, required temporary steel façade retention systems extending over the King Street and Little Bourke Street footpaths. Hand demolition was used to separate the structures from the retained façades and protect the adjoining building at 234–244 King Street and the public. The project required carefully sequenced demolition across multiple connected urban sites.
