405 - 421 Spencer Street, West Melbourne

Demolition of brick and concrete industrial buildings, retaining selected heritage façades and oven structures.

Demolition of industrial buildings at 405–421 Spencer Street, West Melbourne, with heritage brick façades and oven structures retained.

Rafferty the Wrecker undertook demolition works at 405–421 Spencer Street, West Melbourne, involving a double-storey L-shaped brick building, a single-storey concrete tilt-panel warehouse, a single-storey brick warehouse and a double-storey heritage brick building.

The scope required retention of the façade of the open warehouse and both the façade and oven structures of the heritage building. Small plant and machinery were used in selected areas to help protect adjoining buildings, while scaffolding provided protection for neighbouring properties and the public. The demolition works required careful planning to separate structures scheduled for removal from the retained heritage elements.
